your partner in understanding cbt and psychosis
Sarah Kopelovich, PhD, ABPP is a board certified clinical psychologist with expertise in serious mental illness, cognitive behavioral therapy, digital mental health training and treatment, and organizational psychology.
Dr. Kopelovich completed her doctorate in clinical psychology with a forensic specialization at the City University of New York and a postdoctoral fellowship in Serious Mental Illness at Emory University.
Her professional work has incorporated behavioral, implementation, organizational, and technological sciences to advance mental health policies and practices. Since 2017, Dr. Kopelovich has held the prestigious Professorship in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis at the University of Washington School of Medicine, where she co-directs a 40-person Center and serves as a faculty lead in two other university centers.
She has partnered with federal, tribal, state, and organizational leaders to implement new processes and practices to support their most vulnerable populations. Examples include a statewide reformation of psychosis early detection and referral processes to streamline the pathways to psychosis early intervention services; developing, licensing, and deploying a direct-to-consumer training for caregivers of those experiencing psychotic symptoms; and developing a psychosis care continuum model to enhance care continuity across the mental health and crisis care systems.
Dr. Kopelovich co-authored the Systematic Review of Psychopharmacologic and Psychosocial Interventions for Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders, which was published by the Agency for Health Quality Research (AHRQ, 2017) and which served as the primary source document for the American's Psychiatric Association's 2020 Practice Guidelines in the Treatment of Patients with Schizophrenia.
She served as the designated lead of the Substance Abuse Mental Health and Addiction Services Administration's (SAMHSA) 2019 expert panel on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for psychosis and subsequently lead-authored a federally issued CBTp Implementation Guide (SAMHSA, 2021) and Position Statement (Kopelovich et al., 2021).
Dr. Kopelovich is an international expert on CBTp treatment and implementation. She established the first inter- and intra-state CBTp Provider Network; developed the first ever AI-enhanced CBT training tool; and consults to healthcare organizations, states, and national leads on CBTp implementation and dissemination. She is a founding member and current President of the North American CBT for Psychosis Network.
